Summer Enrichment For Kids
There are a great many programs to enrich your kids' lives during the summer (in addition to tutoring, obviously). Here are some ideas and resources that may help you with your planning. And remember, many of these programs are active during the school year as well.
Bay Area Shakespeare Camp
The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival is already accepting applications for Shakespeare Camp, and take it from the dad of a former camper, this camp is terrific. Bonus: Your kids will study Shakespeare in school, so this camp is directly relevant to their education.
California Academy Of Sciences Youth Programs
The Academy is one of the jewels of the Bay Area,
and they have many summer programs
for youth. I urge you to check them out.
Camp Edmo
A friend with the Cal Academy Of Sciences endorses this art, science, and recreation camp, and that’s good enough for me.
Careers In Science Program at California Academy Of Sciences
Looks like a great program for current ninth and tenth graders. Note: apply early.
Exploratorium High School Explainer Program
This wonderful program trains high school students to explain the scientific principles illustrated in the Exploratoriums exhibits. One of my students participated in high school, and told me that it increased his confidence in dealing with others while broadening his scientific knowledge (it’s a nice item for college applications too, by the way).
California Academy of Sciences Internships
Internships offer a sensational chance for kids to expand their horizons while building confidence. This looks fabulous.
Little League Baseball
Baseball – now that says “summer!” Sign–up's for the Junior Giants league are organized by San Francisco’s Department of Recreation and Parks, and note, sign–up's are first–come, first–served.
Marin Shakespeare Company camps
This is a wonderful Shakespeare company, and the glorious summer weather of Marin is a bonus.
San Francisco YouthWorks
This program provides paid summer work for San Francisco high school students.
SPCA High School Volunteer Program
What a wonderful way for animal-lovers to spend their summer.
